Two of my team really don't get on

Q - Two of my team really don’t get on, but I don’t want to break the team up as they get good results. What can I do?

A - It is important to remember that not everyone has to get on to be able to work together and respect each other.  However, it depends on the impact ‘not getting on’ has on the rest of the team.  If you can understand why these two don’t get on, and mediate to find some areas of commonality, then you should be able to keep the team together.  If they impact on the rest of the team then you should treat this as a performance issue and deal with it accordingly, making your expectations very clear.  However, if you spend the bulk of your time mediating this relationship rather than managing the team it is time to take a different approach.
